How do I place an order?
Just click the "free trial" link either here or on the website to signup for a free trial. Once your trial account has been activated, you can upgrade to a full monitoring package at any time during the 30-day free trial.
Note, you can only activate one free trial account - if you have exceeded your free trial period and would like to upgrade to a paid account, please contact our Sales Team.
Do you really provide unlimited SMS?
Yes, most of our packages come with unlimited SMS notifications so that you will never miss an outage. We want to make sure that your notifications are timely and we trust that customers will use these notifications in a reasonable manner. If you need assistance configuring your notification schedule to adjust when messages are sent, please contact our Support Team.
How many locations is my site monitored from?
Each service that is monitored has a primary location that we check from. Once an outage is detected, we immediately perform checks from our other locations around the world to confirm the outage before any notification begins.
If you would like to regularly check from multiple locations you can setup checks for the same service from multiple locations in the control panel. These services will be clearly marked with the other location in the control panel.
What is your cancellation policy?
We are convinced that you will never want to end your relationship with Panopta once you experience truly outstanding server monitoring, but should your decision change you can cancel by opening a ticket with our Billing Team.
We offer a 30 day free trial period that customers can use to try out our service. After the free trial period, refunds are not given. Cancellation can be requested at any time, and will be effective either immediately or upon the customer's next billing date. Either way, no refund for unused service will be provided.

Can you monitor my custom application?
We can monitor any any application that has a remotely-accessible network interface. At the very minimum, we can do basic port checks to ensure that the application is listening on a given port or ports. More in-depth monitoring is possible, especially if it is a HTTP-like protocol using our standard HTTP check functionality.
More advanced checks can also be incorporated into our system by our engineers, and we are currently working on a monitoring extension API that will allow you to design and implement your own checking logic specific to your application. Contact our Support Team if you are interested in pursuing this.
Why do I need checks every 60 seconds?
Any outage, even a short one, immediately impacts your business - customers who aren't able to reach your website or email your company will look to your competitors. Checking all of your services every 60 seconds means that we detect even short outages and give you the ability to respond quickly, as well as detecting situations where there are repeated short-duration outages that add up to substantial downtime but might otherwise get missed with less frequent checking.
If you are a service provider using Panopta to validate your service level agreements (SLAs), high check frequencies are critical. If your SLA guarantees 99.9% only allows for just over 10 minutes of downtime per week. If you only check your site once every 10 minutes, any detected outage, even a very short one, will be counted as your quota for downtime for the week. Higher-frequency checks means you r availability metrics have a greater resolution and allow you to more accurately represent your SLA performance.
Note, with our system the timing of outage notifications is completely separate from the frequency of checks - if you don't want to be alerted to short-duration outages you can setup your notification schedule so that alerts are only sent after, say, 10 minutes. Each outage, however short, will still be included in daily, weekly and monthly performance reports and availability calculations.
Where did your name come from?
The name Panopta is derived from the Greek Panoptes, which means "the all seeing". It was used as an epithet for the giant Argus who was born with one hundred eyes and served as an excellent watchman for Hera. Unfortunately, he was bored to sleep by Hermes' stories and then murdered. Unlike Argus of Greek mythology, Panopta is immune to boring stories (or websites)! See Wikipedia for the full story.
How does the pricing work?
Panopta offers three levels of service ranging in price from $50/month to $250/month. The base package includes a given quantity of services to monitor and control panel users. Additional services and users can be purchased at ala carte rates, and are charged on a monthly cycle along with the base package. All packages include unlimited SMS notifications, contacts and scheduled reports.
You can view the details of your current package as well as monthly costs for additional services and users through the Billing section of our control panel.
Full details, please see the product pricing page of our website.
Am I obligated for a year-long contract?
Do you offer any discounts for quantity or long-term committment?
Our pricing structure is arranged to give quantity discounts on the Intermediate and Advanced monitoring packages - customers with large numbers of services to monitor are advised to upgrade packages in order to take advantage of these discounts.
All accounts are on a monthly billing cycle - there are no long-term commitment discounts.
Do you have a reseller or partnership program?
We are always looking for companies to partner with to either extend the range of our monitoring capabilities, or to offer our monitoring services to their customer base in either a white-label or co-branded manner. Please contact our Sales Team to discuss further.
Do you offer a free plan like some other monitoring companies?
Panopta does not offer any long-term free monitoring packages. The free accounts that are offered elsewhere typically check sites once every hour, which in our opinion is not frequent enough to be useful for companies with a serious web presence as it allows for way too many unmissed outages.
We do offer a 30-day free trial where you can try out the full range of our offerings, including our 60-second check frequency, intelligent notification service with unlimited SMS messages, and outage management tools. After 30 days, we ask that you either convert to a full paying account or cancel your trial account.
If you're interested, sign up now for a free trial and start monitoring your servers within 15 minutes.
Why shouldn't I use my hosting company's monitoring service?
It's true that many hosting companies offer a monitoring service, especially with dedicated server offers. While they can be useful, there are usually some important limitations in this service that you should consider before using them.
First, they are almost always monitoring your server from within the same datacenter, which means that they will catch local problems with the server (software crashes, failing hardware, etc.) but they won't detect things such as a failure in the hosting company's network providers or even worse a power failure that affects the entire datacenter.
Also, there's potentially a question of objectivity in the monitoring results if the hosting company has a SLA obligation to their customers. Overall, you're much better off using an independent monitoring service that can detect all of the service outages that impact your online presence.
